Dr. Chris van der Hoven to take up position of USB-ED CEO
The University of Stellenbosch Business School Executive Development (Pty) Ltd, (USB-ED) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Chris van der Hoven to the position of Chief Executive Officer of USB-ED with effect from 11 June 2018.
Chris most recently held the position of Academic Director of Wits Business School and prior to that he was a Senior Fellow at Cambridge University and a Senior Lecturer at Cranfield School of Management in the UK. He has also been a visiting academic at 10 different business schools including the Stockholm School of Economics, Kentucky Business School in the US, Nanjing University in China, Paul Cezanne University in France, Mannheim in Germany and Cranfield in the UK. Locally Chris has taught strategy and innovation at UCT GSB and GIBS.
Chris has a BSc from the University of Cape Town, MBA from Cranfield School of Management and a PhD from Cambridge University. He entered academia in his late 30’s after moving to the UK, following a prior career with Group 5 and Eskom in South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. His academic field is Strategy and Innovation Management and he has wide-ranging international experience having worked with top teams on leadership and transformation in the field of Customised Executive Education in more than 40 different countries.
Chris van der Hoven succeeds Frik Landman who has retired after 13 years of dedicated service to USB-ED. Chris says, “My task is to continue to build the reputation of USB-ED, represent the brand across our continent and focus on our client’s executive development needs in a manner that enhances their value proposition to their own customers and stakeholders.”
He further says, “I look forward to supporting our professional staff and faculty members and to attracting new associates in disciplines such as business growth, logistics and digital business. I’m excited about creating learning and reflection retreats for high powered executives as well as exploring new digital learning platforms that provide access for executives from all over Africa.”
Commenting on the appointment, Professor Michael Osbaldeston, Chair of the USB Executive Development Board of Directors said, “I am delighted that Chris van der Hoven has been appointed to the role of CEO of USB-ED. Having worked with him previously in the UK, I know that he will dedicate his considerable international business, academic and executive education experience to the leadership of the company during the next stage of its development, both in South Africa and the wider African continent.”
