JOHANNESBURG: 22 FEBRUARY 2010
Board Leadership Programme

This 3 day programme exposes participants to the latest thinking on board leadership. Concepts and available tools in the procedural area as well as process considerations of board leadership are addressed. The focus is on learning the technical aspects with faculty utilising appropriate case studies (local and international) and the process aspect is driven by current board members candidly sharing their experiences and knowledge.

The programme has arisen out of the recognition that there is a critical need in South Africa to enhance the opportunities for learning and development of directors and company secretaries (current and aspirant) in large private and public companies as well as state owned organisations.

The aim of the programme is to equip participants with the necessary procedural and process skills in the increasingly difficult area of boardroom interaction, leadership and decision making. The programme utilises interactions with faculty, current chairpersons and directors which creates a real time learning experience for the delegates. This approach enables delegates to better understand and manage their role back in the work environment.

Key focus areas

These include:

  • The changing expectations of directors and the personal consequences thereof
  • dynamic, constructive board meetings with time-efficient agendae
  • appropriate documentation for board consideration
  • consideration of appropriate board structures and roles of members
  • sourcing, selecting and remunerating board members
  • evaluating and rewarding board member performance
  • the impact of global regulatory standards on company results
  • risk management and dealing with crises
  • preparing for a transformed future
  • ethics in business – what does it mean?
  • effectively discharging your duties as a director and the incumbent legal responsibilities thereof
  • reviewing the results and reporting to stakeholders
  • role of the board as change agent and strategic planner.
